These hubs are responsible for connecting and disconnecting the front wheels from the drivetrain when shifting in and out of 4WD. Driving with a worn or damaged auto locking hub can cause a variety of problems, from a grinding noise when 4WD is engaged, to complete failure of the 4WD system.
